One-Year-Old Girl's Throat Slashed

On Monday March 26, 2012 Dallas law enforcement officers arrived at the home of a lady who was holding her one-year-old baby in her arms. The officers say that the woman's shirt was drenched in blood, and they saw a stab mark on the baby's throat. Later the investigators found a bloody steak knife near a pool of blood in the mother's bedroom. This led the officers to confirm that the young girl had been assaulted by her own mother. The child was alone with her mother in their house when the incident occurred; the family of the mother was away.
The young girl was rushed to a hospital where she was put in a medical-induced coma so that doctors could treat her wounds. On Tuesday the young girl was revived from the coma and the successful treatment of her critical condition, and the doctors are very optimistic about her recovery. The young girl is expected to recover entirely from her catastrophic injury. The mother of the injured child had been diagnosed with schizophrenia some years in the past, but her family never suspected that her condition was so severe that she would intentionally harm her own child.
Injuries can come from many different scenarios and can be accidental or even attempted murder. In this case, the injury was sustained from what appears to be attempted murder. Regardless, the young girl will have severe scarring on her neck for the rest of her life. It is a very sad situation, especially in her case as she was too young to defend herself from the attack.
